States to be Ranked on the Basis of Education?
Niti Aayog along with HRD ministry are planning to start a healthy competition among the states on basis of education.
Recently, two government officials said that the government is planning to start a healthy competition among the states by ranking them according to their performance in education. The states will be judged on the basis of infrastructure in school learning outcomes and various other factors which will urge the state governments to improve the quality of education in their states.
Some of the factors for deciding the ranks include:
- School infrastructure
- Learning outcomes
- Effectiveness of resources
- Innovative projects undertaken
- Research outcomes

The index on which the states will be ranked on has not yet been fully decided. Niti Aayog along with HRD ministry are working on the same and have also consulted independent education experts regarding the matter.
According to an expert, the states will be judged on a real time basis. And there will be a special website where one can see the swings in the ranking of the states.

The chief executive of Niti Aayog, Amitabh Kant commented earlier this month about the same and said that they are doing this to improve the quality of education offered in various states. With the help of this healthy competition, the learning outcome is likely to improve. He also said that the government has been working on this matter for about four months now.
Education has been a matter of concern for the government over the past years and after Indian universities were found far behind other global universities in the global league tables, the government is trying very best to raise the quality of education to the global standards.
