In the special admission drive of Delhi University took place for filling the reserved category seats which were left vacant. However, a lot of aspirants complained that Shri Ram College of Commerce has denied them admission in the college despite their scored percentage is eligible for the sixth cutoff list.

Ms Saloni Kumari, an aspirant of SRCC of 18 years of age has said that as she could not afford to wait till 6th Cutoff, she took admissions in Hansraj College previously. She always aspired for SRCC but now the college is denying her admissions.

Kumari including several others was told that the candidates who took admission in other colleges other than SRCC before would not be allowed to appear in the special drive or cancel their admission for enrolling in a different college. Special drives have been taking place in DU for a long time, stakeholders said that never before that the university has laid down such a rule. Many students did not know the guidelines beforehand. An official notification from SRCC told that candidates already admitted in college or department as on 29th July 2019 will not be allowed to seek admission in the 6th cutoff list.

The college, however, chose to not respond against any communication attempted. The DU also did not tell this before but issued a notice to the principals of the colleges saying that students will not be allowed to cancel the admissions to seek admission in other colleges. However, students of reserved categories are exempted from the rules.

An OBC category aspirant named Prasurjya Saikia, who is a resident of Guwahati, already cancelled his admission in Hansraj College for seeking admission in SRCC. He said that the admission council told him that if Hansraj College communicates with the university in written format, then only they will restore his admission. He expressed that he wants to study in SRCC but he has to get admission somewhere. As running around like this is tiring, he just hopes to study in SRCC.

Mr Ravi Ranjan whose cousin Priyanshi Shroff was seeking admission under the OBC category, said she could not get admission in SRCC.

Ranjan informed that they were considering approaching the court. He added that College authorities gave multiple reasons like they were overburdened and do not have the necessary infrastructure to provide admission to more students. Mr Ranjan expressed that he thinks this is just for delaying the process as Saturday is the last day for 6th Cutoff admissions.

Rajeev Gupta, the Chairperson of the admissions committee has said that those who had cancelled admissions would be restored. When enquired about the problems being faced by the students, Gupta responded by saying that everything is subject to availability of vacant seats as mentioned in the press release previously as well, only the reserved category students would be counted but that might not have been made clear to some people. If there are just two seats available for 40 candidates, colleges cannot admit every one of them.
