Students Conduct Awareness Camp on Science Education in NE States and West Bengal

With an objective to spend their vacation fruitfully, four students from Fergusson College toured to three northeastern states and West Bengal to spread awareness on science education as well as national integrity. They toured for four weeks in these states and also conducted science awareness workshops in 25 schools and interacted with 3,000 students across the four states.
They also performed street plays regarding science education and the importance of girls education near the railway stations which have been attended by hundreds of people. One of the students termed the visit to four states as a personal experience, and there is a reason for choosing these four particular states.

They started their tour on November 21, 2016, and carried out various activities until December 18, 2016, in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Sikkim and West Bengal. Visal Savai, one among the four students, revealed that there is a lack of communication between the students of Maharashtra and North East. The students belonging to NE states are often discriminated and teased racially. Hence, to bridge the gap, they have taken an initiative of spreading awareness on science and girls education.
He further added that they had visited 25 schools where they taught the students Class 2 to 10 on various topics related to science which include sound, volume, pressure, centrifugal force and others. Most of the colleges and schools incorporating theoretically based education rather than practical based education among the students which is not a positive sign.

Khandu Doke, one among the four students, explained that the motive behind taking up this initiative to address the issues relating to discrimination between boys and girls and dowry. He further added that they had learnt a lot during the journey.
