Students of IIM-A Keen to Work on Telangana’s Investment Promotion Programme
Around 10-15 students from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad will be selected for a 10-week internship programme first, and will have a chance to get recruited according to their work on investment promotion.
Students of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) prefer a government assignment over a corporate job. Some of the students have applied for Telangana's investment promotion programme. According to sources, 30 applications were received from IIM-A for the first internship programme being offered by Telangana government. The main objective of the government is to create a cadre of professionals for the task of attracting investments.

Arvind Kumar, Principal Secretary of Telangana Industries Department stated that they have been receiving an overwhelming response from IIM-A students. It can be considered as a significant response compared to a campus hiring by an MNC bank. The response indicates students’ interest in public policy which, in turn, is a positive sign. He clarified that once the selection process is completed, the students would be put on specific assignments.

Recently, Arvind Kumar gave a presentation in IIM-A regarding internship and lateral hiring plans of Telangana government. Later it was decided to tap the required professional talent from one of the premier institutes of the country, i.e., IIM-A.
Around 10-15 students would be selected for a 10-week internship programme and these students will have a chance to get recruited according to their work on investment promotion. Currently, the state government is in the process of recruiting experienced professionals for 14 priority sectors to get the investments.
The main objective of Telangana government is to institutionalise the system of investment promotion. The continuous efforts of the state in creating business-friendly practices propelled the state to reach the top Ease of Doing Business (EODB) rank.
The Andhra Pradesh government has also taken a similar initiative by selecting 12 students from Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad with average salaries and appointed them as the advisors to Chief Minister of AP.
