Students of IIM Bangalore Work with Andhra Pradesh Govt. on IPR Framework

Post Graduate Programme in Enterprise Management (PGPEM) - 2016 students from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore have begun a project in the area of IPR with the government of Andhra Pradesh. Jyothi Ganiger and Anitha Botta, two students of the batch have been selected to work on the project under the mentorship of Prof. A. Damodaram. The main aim of the programme is to consolidate the existing startup and innovation policy of IPR in Andhra Pradesh.

A proposal developed by the students in this regard was presented to the government of Andhra Pradesh. It highlighted the lag in the existing policy. These students carried out a detailed study of the Andhra Pradesh Innovation and Startup Policy (2014-2020). Based on their observations, the students highlighted the gaps in the current policy. Some of the important points that were highlighted by the students include: -

• A roadmap for innovation
• Addressing the funding of entrepreneurs and startups at early stages
• Connecting the current Andhra Pradesh (AP) Innovation & Startup policy to an IPR system

Anitha Botta, one of the students working on the project explained that after carefully assessing the details of the existing policy, they figured out that Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) were not being addressed completely. Hence, they submitted a proposal based on their study for which the government has given a nod. The students in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh government have therefore started working on the project.

The students are expecting to submit the final report within four months. During these four months, the students will work on inclusion of IPR Framework to the existing AP Innovation and Startup Policy (2014-2020).
