A group of students from Vishwakarma Institute of Technology’s (VIT) Vishwakarma Creative-I College met Union Minister of Human Resource and Development Prakash Javadekar recently to discuss the uncertain future of degree course for which no exams were conducted last year.

The students met HRD Minister at his residence and explained the problems they are facing as the affiliation of degree courses they were studying is now under question. Earlier, VIT offered various courses affiliated to Karnataka State Open University (KSOU). However, University Grants Commission (UGC) ordered KSOU not to offer courses outside the state.

One of the students expressed that he took admission in the year 2013-14 and have given four-semester exams. Earlier, the college had promised that he would be awarded a degree from Tilak Maharashtra University. Later, it was changed to Punjab Technical University and then Karnataka State Open University. Currently, the affiliation does not exist, and the future of the students is at stake.

One of the students pursuing B.Sc Interior Designing mentioned that most of the students fear their future in terms of education and employment. Most of the students had taken admission in traditional courses, and the exams were not conducted last year as a result of lacking affiliation. If everything had gone well, they would have their completed exams and would have passed with a graduation degree by now.

HRD Minister assured that he would speak with the officials of University Grants Commission (UGC) regarding the issue and get it solved. He explained that UGC stopped affiliation with technical course degrees through open universities as some courses require laboratory work or technical skills. He further added that, if the students took admission before UGC cancelled the affiliation, then they would be allowed to take the examinations.
