The sit-in-protest took place because the students of Nagaland belonging to the scheduled tribe have not received the full scholarship for the academic year 2015. Since the dues are not clear they are facing trouble from the management of colleges or institutions.
Out of those 329 students, one was T Thomas Konyak who explained the problems they are facing because of this scholarship fiasco.
He said that since they all belong to a poor family and are not at a financial level that they can pay their fees, so this scholarship is very much important and necessary for them.

He also mentioned that the students at post graduate level are not able to avail their mark sheet and pass certificate because of the unpaid dues. They are also not able to attend the new session because the payment of the last session is not done.
PMSS i.e. Post Matriculation Scholarship Scheme of the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs was promised to them. This scholarship is released by the central government but is apparently pending from the side of the state government.
The distressed students from Nagaland have submitted a memorandum to the Directors of Higher Education and Technical Education Departments requesting the government to bail them out of the critical situation.
