Sub Committee Urges 'No Detention Policy till 8th Standard' Reviewed Again

Recently, the central advisory board of education’s subcommittee recommended reviewing of the “No Detention policy till 8th standard” introduced by the government, apart from the reintroduction of class 5 and 8 standard exams independently. Apart from this, the committee which is headed by Daljit Singh Cheema who is also the Education minister of Punjab suggested on starting with pre-primary classes in primary schools as it will further help to improve the student's knowledge in government schools. He has also asked the government to increase the spending on education to 6 percent of the GDP, same as other countries.

Cheema handed the 189-page report to HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar. The main purpose of the committee run by Cheema is to improve the condition and lot of the government schools in the country.

After submitting the report to HRD Minister, Cheema said that the recommendations and suggestions mentioned in the report were discussed at the meeting as well.

In the upcoming annual meeting of CABE, these recommendations will be further discussed and debated on. The meeting is scheduled for October 25, all School Education and Higher Education ministers of all the states will be participating in the meeting. Cheema further explained that while preparing the report, expenditure by various countries on ‘Education’ was also compared and thus decided that about 6 percent of the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) should be spent on education.
