'SUK' Courses to Focus on Skill Development

Shivaji University, Kolhapur (SUK) has started as many as 11 new skill development courses under the Pramod Mahajan Skill Development Scheme at the youth skill development centre. Mr. D D Pawar, the Deputy Director of Skill Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship of the Pune division was present at the inauguration of the courses, a university circular said.

During the programme, Pawar said, "Several such centres were set up across the state and the government is quite focussed about the initiative. The courses under the scheme are free for eligible candidates and they should make the most of it."

Nitin Sonaje, the Shivaji University, Kolhapur (SUK) acting deputy registrar, said, "This is an important step by the state government and youngsters should look at it as an valuable opportunity." He added that university's youth development centre has more than 11 courses on offer.

They include:

• Accounting
• Banking
• Soft-skill development
• Desktop publishing (DTP)
• Makeup
• Others

The university Vice-Chancellor, Devanand Shinde had inaugurated the youth skills development centre at the university campus in September in 2015. During the occasion, he had said that the university planned to implement as many as 26 different skill development courses step-by-step at the centre. He had also said that introducing the Pramod Mahajan Skill Development Scheme, and Prime Minister's Youth Skill Development Programme was the main agenda for the centre.

The university's youth skills development centre is jointly operated by the SUK's student welfare department and information technology support centre.
