The 52nd convocation ceremony of the Shivaji University, Kolhapur (SUK) will be held on February 27. Acting Registrar V N Shinde made the announcement on Wednesday. The Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) Vice-Chancellor and Padmashri awardee GD Yadav, according to the university sources is likely to be the chief guest for the event and a formal invitation has been sent out to him. Yadav was selected for Padmashri awards this year.
Yadav was born in a hamlet in the Radhanagari tehsil in the Kolhapur district. He completed his education till class VII in the village. After completing his basic education, he went to Mumbai for higher studies and completed chemical engineering from the University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT), in Mumbai in 1974. He then worked for green technologies and did further research in nanotechnology and biotechnology. He has made innovative contributions to green chemistry and engineering, catalysis science and engineering, chemical reaction engineering, biotechnology, nano-technology and energy engineering.He has authored over 350 research papers in 68 cross-disciplinary international peer-reviewed journals with over 280 conference presentations. He also holds 75 patents and has authored three books.
The Shivaji University, Kolhapur (SUK) will confer over 50,000 degree certificates in the 52nd convocation ceremony this year.
