Supreme Court Cancels the Admission of 180 Medical Students in Kerala

The apex court of India, i.e., Supreme Court has cancelled the admission of 180 Undergraduate (UG) medical students. All these students were enrolled under the UG medical course in Karuna Medical College and Kannur Medical College. The court took this initiative as these colleges owed to irregularities in the admission procedure.

A bench led by Justice Arun Mishra ordered the cancellation of 150 medical admissions of Kannur Medical College and 30 medical admissions of Karuna Medical College. The bench further cautioned all the private medical colleges that severe action would be taken against the irregularities in admissions.

The Supreme Court affirmed the order of High Court of October 2016 and invalidated the medical admissions because these colleges did not publish the correct prospects on their official website. On the other hand, these colleges did not maintain transparency in furnishing all the details regarding admissions online.

Examining the documents that are submitted during admissions, the Bench clarified that they might be fabricated, thus extinguishing the last vestige of hope for the students who have been involved in the litigation. The Supreme Court also directed criminal action against these college managements.

Karuna Medical College has been directed by Supreme Court to draw up a supplementary admission list that consists of the list of 30 meritorious students. The names of these students must be included in a report that is submitted by the Admission Supervisory Committee and State Examination Controller in the apex court. The 30 seats that have ben vacated in the college will be occupied by these 30 students.
