Finally, Supreme Court has given the verdict on age limit in NEET 2017 examination. The apex court clarified that the candidates who are above 25 years of age can appear for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2017 examination. Now, the registration date for NEET 2017 has been extended until April 5, 2017. The court heard two writ petitions regarding the removal of age criterion that was introduced by Union Health ministry in January 2017.

Vaibhav Srivastava, an advocate revealed that the judge has recorded the submissions of all parties that include Medical Council of India (MCI) and petitioners. The students were also represented by noted lawyers Amarendra Sharan and Indu Malhotra.

It is good news for all the medical aspirants who were disappointed by the notification issued by CBSE in January. When the official notification was released, CBSE indicated that the upper age limit to apply for NEET 2017 was 25 years. Since then there was continuous opposition against the age limit and some students filed petitions in Supreme Court seeking justice.

Recently, MCI also clarified that they will scrap the upper age limit and cap on the number of attempts. The Oversight Committee made recommendations to Union Health ministry on the same and got approval.

The apex court is yet to announce its final verdict on the inclusion of Urdu in NEET. The Student Islamic Organisation filed the petition and are eagerly waiting for the final verdict. SIO claimed that inclusion of Urdu would help the students from Urdu medium to qualify in the national level entrance examination.
