SC Supports NEET for UG AYUSH Admissions, AIAPGET for PG AYUSH

The Supreme Court is in the favour of NEET for admission to UG AYUSH courses such as BHMS, BSMS, BUMS and BAMS. SC was considering the appeals against the High Court Judgement that dismissed the challenge against the 2018 notification.

The Supreme Court is in the favour of All-India National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test for admission to UG AYUSH courses such as BHMS, BSMS, BUMS and BAMS. The bench comprising Justice Deepak Gupta and L. Nageswara Rao stated that the minimum standards cannot be lowered for admission to AYUSH courses.

The Indian Medicine Central Council Regulations 1986 were amended by the 2018 Regulations. According to Regulation 2 (d) of 2018, there should be a uniform entrance examination for admission to all medical institutions which is the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET). NEET should be considered for admission to UG courses in each academic year and the entrance test should be conducted by an authority designated by the Central Government.

Supreme Court was considering the appeals against the High Court Judgement that dismissed the challenge against the 2018 notification.

Apart from this the bench also referred to the judgment in the Veterinary Council of India V. Indian Council of Agricultural Research in which it was said that the Veterinary Council of India is authorized to frame regulations and prescribing the standards of veterinary education. The Council also has powers to make regulations related to veterinary qualifications and admissions.

SC has also agreed for the minimum percentile for admission to UG courses observing that minimum standard cannot be even lowered for AYUSH courses.
