Supreme Court Renders Jobs, Admissions on Fake Caste Certificates Invalid
- SC announced that jobs or admissions secured on basis of fake certificates to be cancelled.
- The ruling was passed in contrast to the decision taken by the Bombay High Court.
- The Court also announced that the decision will be implemented immediately.
In order to prevent the use of fake caste certificates, the Supreme Court (SC) announced on Thursday, July 7, that government jobs or admissions secured by candidates under reserved category using forged or fake caste certificates will not be considered valid or allowed to continue in the eyes of the law.
Prior to this, the Bombay High Court had declared that if a person has served in a government office for a long period of time and later he or she is found to have submitted a fake caste certificate then they must be allowed to continue their term of service in that office.

However, a bench of Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice D Y Chandrachud did not agree with the decision of the Bombay High Court and decided that the term of service or education of individuals who have submitted fake caste certificates must be terminated as soon as the forgery is uncovered.
The verdict came out after a batch of petitions were addressed, including the petition filed by the Government of Maharashtra against the judgement passed by the Bombay High Court.

After considering the various forgery cases across educational institutes and government offices, the Supreme Court has announced that the findings of its verdict will not be applicable as a reviewing process. The Court said that the decision will be applicable for all fake caste certificate cases from now on.
