Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. K. Palaniswamy met Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi seeking exemption from National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. The state government has been eagerly waiting for the centre's decision over the NEET issue since February 2017. Now, the CM of Tamil Nadu urged the PM to think about the welfare of the state students.

Last week, a delegation of ministers from Tamil Nadu interacted with Union cabinet over the NEET issue. Even the opposition parties in Tamil Nadu like DMK have been insisting the government over the NEET issue. However, the centre is yet to take a call on the issue and the legislations adopted by TN state assembly are under review. Recently, the ministers from Tamil Nadu state also submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister and sought exemption from NEET.

If the President of India approves the two bills passed by the state assembly of Tamil Nadu, medical admissions will be based on Class 12 score of the candidates. DMK party is also going to organise a human chain on July 27, 2017, seeking clearance to the two bills passed by the state assembly. According to Mr. Stalin, leader of the opposition, implementing NEET has shattered the dreams of medical aspirants from the state.

On the other hand, parents and students are worried about the current situation in the state. The medical counselling in the state is being postponed due to lack of clarity on medical admissions in the state.
