V.K. Sasikala, Chief of ruling AIADMK party sought the support from Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India on exempting the state from NEET or National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. She wrote a letter to PM stating that medical students of Tamil Nadu needed PM's support on the issue and explained that rural students would face difficulty in qualifying NEET as they do not have access to coaching.

She further added that the syllabus of NEET is prescribed by Central Board of Secondary Education and the government of Tamil Nadu is following the syllabus prescribed by State Board of Higher Education. Therefore, it is unjust to hold NEET for the medical aspirants of Tamil Nadu.
