Tamil Nadu Govt. to Raise NEET Issue in Parliament

A leader of AIADMK part, Mr. Tambidurai assured that the state government would raise the issue of NEET in the upcoming Parliament session. The state government always strives to protect the interest of students, and it will continue its fight for the rights of Tamil Nadu students. Since the matter is under judicial consideration, the state government was restricted to carry out public discussion on the matter.

Since February 2017, the state government has been trying its level best to seek exemption from NEET for the admission to UG and PG medical courses. The State Assembly also passed two legislations to exempt domicile students from NEET. However, the legislations are under the review of President of India, waiting for his assent. Earlier, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. K. Palaniswamy took up the issue with Prime Minister of India and sought his intervention.

Both ruling and opposition parties across the state are against the CBSE-centric NEET examination. They claimed that the students of the state were not ready for the national level exam, as schools in Tamil Nadu except those affiliated to CBSE schools follow state syllabus. However, Madras HC did not agree with the argument of the state government.

Recently, the state government also passed an order reserving 85% seats for the state board students. CBSE students of Tamil Nadu opposed the move and filed a petition in the HC against the order of the state government. The High Court of Madras ordered status quo on the medical admission process in Tamil Nadu on July 11, 2017.
