On Tuesday, Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu experienced intermittent and widespread rainfall, resulting in knee-deep water in residential areas and on roads. This led to traffic congestion and disruption of public transport services. Bus services were impacted in various areas, and Southern Railway had to cancel four express trains, including the Chennai Central-Mysuru Kaveri Express, due to waterlogging. Furthermore, numerous domestic flights were cancelled as a result of low passenger turnout.
The School Education Department has issued a circular to all schools, directing them to implement precautionary measures for student safety during the rainy season. Measures include monitoring electricity cables, clearing drainage systems, and ensuring water does not stagnate on school rooftops. Schools are advised to avoid using dilapidated buildings and to inspect their buildings for safety.
