Tariq Mansoor Appointed as New Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)
- Mr. Tariq Mansoor has been rendering his services to the varsity for the past 35 years.
- Speaking about his appointment, Mr. Tariq revealed that he have not received any official confirmation or order from the government yet.
Finally, President of India Shri. Pranab Mukherjee has selected Mr. Tariq Mansoor as Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University and has extended an appointment for the same. Currently, Mr. Tariq Mansoor is the Principal of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College of Aligarh Muslim University. The Ministry of Human Resource and Development shortlisted three names for the post of Vice Chancellor and sent it to the President of India. The President has the power to make an appointment.
The current Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University Lt. Gen Zameeruddin Shah will retire on May 17, 2017.

HRD Ministry also recommended Mr. Abu Saleh Sharif and Mr. Shahid Jammel for the post of VC. However, President Mukherjee has the authority to make the final selection. One of the officials associated with the Executive Council of the varsity revealed that these two members did not serve as professors earlier and they do not comply with the norms of the University Grants Commission. However, Mr. Tariq Mansoor has an excellent academic record and satisfies the norms of UGC.

The varsity will submit the financial audit by the last week of May as per the instructions of HRD Ministry.
For many days, the matter of appointing Vice Chancellor to Aligarh Muslim Court was in Supreme Court. However, Supreme Court clarified that it would not interfere in the appointment of VC.
