Tata Medical Centre & IIT Kharagpur to Set Up Inter-Disciplinary Medical Research
- The major objective is to promote collaboration and interaction between students, medical professionals and faculty members of IIT Kharagpur and Tata Medical Centre.
- Currently, both the institutes are planning to launch joint research projects through external funding.
Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur is all set to collaborate with Tata Medical Centre to promote education, research and outreach programmes in the field of interdisciplinary medical research. The major objective is to promote collaboration and interaction between students, medical professionals and faculty members of IIT Kharagpur and Tata Medical Centre. Both the institutes will take up joint research programmes in the field of interdisciplinary medical research. The joint academic and research programmes will be conducted under the joint supervision of doctoral, postgraduate and undergraduate students on a reciprocal basis.

Currently, both the institutes are planning to launch joint research projects through external funding. IIT Kharagpur and Tata Medical Centre will promote joint medical research programmes and exchange programmes by creating visiting faculty posts of scientists along with access to laboratory facilities for exchange of data.
Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur has also planned to launch Integrated M.Sc-Ph.D. programme soon. The new course will lay more emphasis on molecular medical microbiology, nuclear medicine and medical physics. The programme will be developed and conducted jointly by IIT Kharagpur and Tata Medical Centre. Through this programme, the students will have an advantage of spending one semester in each institute along with joint supervision by scientists and faculty of both the institutes. After the successful completion of the course, IIT Kharagpur will award the degree.

Both the institutes are also planning to launch an outreach programme for working professionals with customised training modules. The objective behind the idea of launching the outreach programme is to cater the specific needs/ requirements of the industry.
The super speciality hospital at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur is scheduled to begin from mid-2018.
