Teachers' Day 2023: Education is the stepping stone to every child's life, and a great role model, guidance, and inspiration are the teachers. To honor and celebrate the teachers of the country, every year, on the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Teachers' Day is celebrated. Dr. Radhakrishnan was the first Vice President and Second President of the country. He was widely known as an emblem of academia and education, he was also a teacher and a philosopher. His legacy is invaluable in the contribution of education for Indian children. So, to know such a great personality of the country, here are some interesting facts about Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan to enlighten and learn more about him at the event of Teachers' Day 2023.

Here are some facts about Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan to learn about this Teachers' Day 2023: 
  • Dr. Radhakrishnan was born on September 5, 1888, to a humble and modest family in Thiruthani, Tamil Nadu. He completed his graduation at the age of 16 from Madras Christian College in 1907, as well as his master's from the same college. Throughout his educational life, he received many scholarships and excelled in his studies. 
  • From 1949 until 1952, he served as India's second ambassador to the Soviet Union. In addition, he served as the second vice-chancellor of Andhra University from 1931 to 1936 as well as the fourth vice-chancellor of Banaras Hindu University from 1939 to 1948.
  • One of the most renowned and influential scholars of comparative religion and philosophy in the 20th century, Radhakrishnan held the Spalding Chair of Eastern Religion and Ethics at Oxford University from 1936 to 1952 and the King George V Chair of Mental and Moral Science at the University of Calcutta from 1921 to 1932.
  • Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was nominated for 11 Nobel Peace Prizes and 16 Nobel Prizes in Literature.  He was also the Chairman of UNESCO's executive board in 1948. Also, he served as the Indian Ambassador to the Soviet Union from 1949 to 1952. 
  • Some of his major contributions to literature includes Indian Philosophy, 2 vol. (1923–27), The Philosophy of the Upanishads (1924), An Idealist View of Life (1932), Eastern Religions and Western Thought (1939), and East and West: Some Reflections (1955). Additionally, during his tenure as Vice President, he presided over the Rajya Sabha, and quoted Sanskrit Slokas and passages from the bible to pacify heated arguments.
