Tech Students get Extra Subject at Eleventh Hour
Electronics and telecommunication students from the division have complained about the university not informing them in advance about an extra subject
Electronics and telecommunication students from the division have complained about the university not informing them in advance about an extra subject in the upcoming semester for the April examinations. Affected students said that according to a notice issued by Shivaji University, Kolhapur (SUK), on March 14, they have appear for an examination on linear integrated subjects (LIC).
Kiran Pujari, a third year electronics and telecommunication student from Kolhapur Institute of Technology College of Engineering, said that the revised syllabus was removed. He added that the university has to also consider that there is not enough time to prepare for the extra subject.
Students have complained that the university has not given any clear structure about the subject or the marking pattern. They have raised demands to not add the subject in the upcoming examination.
Nilesh Yadav, district president, National Students Union of India (NSUI), said that the issue is important and they met the university's controller of examination (COE) and also complained to the vice-chancellor.
When contacted Mahesh Kakade, COE, said that the matter is handled by dean of the engineering faculty and the director of the board of colleges and university development (BCUD).
"Only students who failed in the second year, when the subject was active before revision, have to appear for this exam. The university, however, has given us a very short notice and wants us to submit theory assignments, practical exam and complete all other formalities by March 31, which is impossible now"
