Due to the Supreme Court stay on the inclusion of 11 new B.Ed colleges in the counselling process of TS EDCET 2016, the future of 7,000 B.Ed aspirants across Telangana has become uncertain. These students had qualified the entrance examination and did not attend the first phase counselling process.

Usually, the government of Telangana conducts second phase B.Ed counselling in June. It has been six months, and there is no indication that the second phase of counselling will be conducted. These students will have no other option except to wait for the next academic session to take admission. The government planned to hold counselling in October 2016, but it did not happen.

The counselling was cancelled as 11 new B.Ed colleges which got approval from National Council for Teacher Education or NCTE were denied to take part in the counselling process. Therefore, these colleges approached High Court seeking justice. The High Court directed Telangana State Council for Higher Education or TSCHE to include these colleges in the counselling process and complete the process soon. However, the government failed to do so, and the college managements failed a contempt of court.

Later, the government of Telangana approached Supreme Court against the inclusion of these 11 colleges. Finally, Supreme Court ordered a stay on judgement on February 10, 2017.

On the other hand, the college managements urged the government to at least release the notification for EDCET 2017, TSCHE clarified that no notification would be issued until the case is cleared.

Most of these students could not join in B.Ed course under management quota as they could not afford the fees. Therefore, they have been waiting for second phase B.Ed counselling to seek admission under state quota. Now, there is no chance of holding counselling process, and they need to wait until the EDCET 2017 notification is released.
