Telangana Govt. Seeks IIM for Hyderabad
- Education Minister of Telangana submitted a proposal to HRD Ministry for setting up IIM in Hyderabad.
- HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar responded positively and assured support.
Deputy Chief Minister & Education Minister of Telangana, Mr. Kadiyam Srihari met Union HRD Minister, Mr. Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. The Education Minister was in Delhi to submit CABE report on girl child education. During the meeting, Mr. Srihari requested the HRD Minister to initiate the process of setting up Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Hyderabad. He also submitted a detailed proposal for setting up IIM in Hyderabad. The HRD assured that the government would look into the proposal and take a decision soon.

Telangana has premier technical institutes like IIT Hyderabad and IIIT Hyderabad. However, the state government has been eagerly waiting for an IIM since 2014.
Recently, Mr. Kadiyam Srihari confirmed that the state government had taken the decision to conduct all the entrance exams in English, Telugu and Urdu languages. Considering the demands of Urdu medium students in the state, the State Council for Higher Education has initiated the process for searching Urdu scholars and professionals to translate the question papers. There will be no separate question paper in the Urdu language, and it will be a mere translation of English medium question paper.

This year, all the state universities in Telangana will not hold separate entrance exams for the admission to PG courses. Instead, all the universities will hold a common PGCET. Osmania University has been assigned the responsibility of conducting joint PGCET. The notification will be issued in March or April 2018.
