Telangana Private Colleges Threaten to go on Strike from 14th Oct

After the Telangana government failed to clear the fee reimbursement dues of about 3,200 private degree and postgraduate colleges, they have threatened to go on a strike from Friday, 14th Oct. The total amount due on the government's part is Rs. 670 crore.

With exams in many colleges scheduled to begin from Friday, the strike by the Telangana private degree and PG colleges managements' association will hinder the entire process of supplementary exams in degree colleges.

Colleges affiliated to different universities have exams scheduled to begin on different dates. Below is a detailed view of the same:

• Colleges affiliated to Kakatiya University- October 14
• Colleges affiliated to Osmania University- October 15
• Colleges affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University- October 18
• Colleges affiliated to Sathavahana University- October 24
• Colleges affiliated to Palamuru University- First week of November.

The main issue raised by these colleges is that they lack enough funds required to run the college as they have not received fee reimbursement dues since the 2014-15 academic year.

President of the association, Ramana Reddy commented that they have discussed the same with government officials many times. However, the government has not responded or made any effort to resolve their plea. The colleges think that it is high time and they don’t have any other option than to go on strike.

The colleges have demanded the government to make the payment of the dues dividing it into three installments but with a two-month gap in between each installment.

Earlier, this year, the colleges went on strike in the month of May for the same reason. The government had then promised to clear the dues by the end of June. No payment was made to any college after that.
