The sound of cooker whistles and the fragrance of crushed pudina, soft-cooked dal and onions frying in oil filled the air —at the food science laboratory in the Home Science Department of Women’s Christian College.
Amidst the students are trans-women Naleena, Sanjana, Mansi, Deepthi, Reema, Anjali, Sofia, Soundarya, Krithika and Bharathi, who’ve all been brought together by BRAVOH (BRinging Adequate Values of Humanity), a movement for trans-women run by activist Olga. B. Aaron.
The two-day event offered lectures and presentations, and activities to learn about nutrition and healthy living. In the process, the trans-women and students of the college also learnt a little more about each other.
“Women’s colleges should be open to taking in post-operative trans-women,” said a participant.
