Two IIT Graduates Win MacArthur Fellowship 2016
Prakash and Khot, recipients of MacArthur Fellowship 2016, also known as the 'Genius Grant' work at Stanford University and New York University respectively.
Graduates of Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and Indian Institute of Technology Bombay get the ‘Genius Grant’. Indian origin IIT graduates Manu Prakash and Subhash Khot are part of the 23 scholar squad who have been selected for the MacArthur Fellowship 2016. The MacArthur Fellowship is a grant which is given to scholars who present extraordinary prospects of their research. The fellowship includes a cash award of $625,000 which will be given to the chosen scholars every five years.

Manu Prakash is an Assistant Professor at the Stanford University. He works in the Department of Bio-Engineering. Subhash Khot, on the other hand, works at New York University as a Theoretical Computer Scientist. This fellowship gives the scholars complete freedom to do the research in their way and gives them the flexibility to choose the way they want to treat their research.

The fellowship is being given to Manu because of his exemplary research in ‘diversity of life forms on our planet and how they work.’ And Khot is being given the fellowship for his work in computational complexity. Subhash Khot graduated from IIT Bombay in the year 1999 and completed his Doctorate at Princeton University in the year 2003.
