Two New Medical Colleges in Himachal to Begin Admissions this Academic Session

Virbhadra Singh, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh on Saturday announced that the two newly-opened medical colleges in the state will begin their admissions process from this academic session expressing his gratitude towards the Union Government for granting permission to the state government to set up two medical colleges at Mandi and Chamba town.

The institute established in the city of Chamba would be named as Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College while the college in Mandi town would be named as the Lal Bahadur Shashtri Medical College.

According to an official statement, both the colleges would have a capacity of admitting hundred MBBS candidates each.

Chief Minster also thanked the central government for permission renewal and thus allowing Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Medical College in Nahan town to provide admission to the second batch of hundred MBBS students for this academic session. He added that there is still a long way to strengthen medical education in the state.

Virbhadra informed that the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government had given approval to the three medical institutions of the state at Hamirpur, Chamba and Nahan towns. However, the college at Hamirpur is yet to receive confirmation.

Previously, the two government medical colleges of Himachal Pradesh, Dr. Rajendar Prasad Government Medical College in Tanda and Indira Gandhi Medical College in Shimla were operating with an intake of hundred MBBS students each. These seats are allocated through National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) examination.
