UGC & AICTE to Conduct Test for Engineering Students with Degrees from 4 Deemed Universities
- Engineering students who completed graduation from 4 deemed universities between 2001-2005 can now register for an exam that will be conducted by UGC and AICTE to validate their degrees.
- January 15, 2018, is the last date to register for the written exam.
Recently, University Grants Commission has suspended the engineering degrees awarded to students by four deemed universities after the direction issued by Supreme Court regarding the same. Following this, the AICTE or All India Council for Technical Education has initiated the process of registration for such students who will get an opportunity to appear for a test in order to validate their degrees.
The test's registration process began on December 3, 2017. Candidates who were enrolled in these universities from the year 2001 to 2005 and were awarded degrees or diplomas in engineering through distance mode can apply for the AICTE test. January 15, 2018, is the deadline to complete the registration process. Unless these students clear the exam, the engineering degrees awarded by the four deemed universities will not stand valid. AICTE has not given the exact date for conducting the exam yet. According to sources, AICTE and UGC may conduct the written test in May or June 2018. Students of the following deemed institutes must appear for the written exam: -
- Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation, Tamil Nadu
- Allahabad Agricultural Institute
- Advanced Studies in Education, Rajasthan
- JRN Rajasthan Vidyapeeth
These institutes were running engineering programmes in distance mode without necessary approvals from AICTE or UGC. After suspending the degrees awarded by these four institutes, the Supreme Court of India directed the institutes to return the tuition fee and other expenditure incurred by students. The apex court restrained all the deemed universities to offer courses in distance mode from the academic session 2018-19.
