UGC to Appoint New Secretary Soon
- According to sources, Professor Rajesh Jain has more chances to be appointed as Secretary of UGC.
- The final decision regarding the appointment will be taken soon.
The University Grants Commission has almost completed the process of appointing new Secretary. The interviews for the post of Secretary were conducted earlier this week and UGC has shortlisted three names for the post. The final decision will be taken soon.
UGC has shortlisted the following candidates for the post of Secretary: -
- Director of Institute of Management Studies at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Professor Rajesh Jain
- Civil Engineering Professor at IIT Roorkee, Professor Praveen Kumar
- Mechanical Engineering Professor at JNTU Hyderabad, Professor Hemachandra Reddy

In December 2017, Mr. DP Singh assumed the post of Chairperson of UGC. The appointment has been made after a delay of almost six months.
UGC has taken the academic track record and experience of the applicants while shortlisting the candidates. According to sources, Professor Rajesh Jain has more chances to be appointed as Secretary of UGC. However, there is no confirmation in this regard.
Recently, UGC extended the deadline for the institutes seeking IoE status. February 15, 2018, is the last date for the institute to submit the applications. UGC will not extend the deadline further.

UGC has been taking various measures to improve the quality of education, reduce the prevalence of ragging in higher learning institutes and mitigate the faculty shortage in higher learning institutes. The commission is also taking steps to address the grievances of students. For this purpose, UGC urged universities and colleges to set up Grievances Redressal Committees (GRCs).
