UGC Approves Yoga as a Subject in NET
Currently, the candidates who are pursuing graduation and post graduation in yoga are eligible to appear for NET exam next year.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has finally approved Yoga as one of the subjects in National Eligibility Test (NET). The HRD Ministry had appointed a panel headed by Yoga Guru H.R. Nagendra to study the possibilities for the inclusion of yoga in NET. The committee recommended that yoga is one of the lucrative career options for those who are pursuing various yoga courses in different institutions across the country. The committee submitted the report to HRD Ministry and requested to include yoga in NET.

Currently, the candidates who are pursuing graduation and post graduation in yoga are eligible to appear for NET exam next year. One of the senior officials mentioned that it has become difficult to fill the vacant teaching positions for yoga as there was no NET exam. The present decision taken by the UGC will meet the requirements.

Currently, a total number of 52 institutes in India are offering courses in yoga out of which 16 institutes offer masters degree. The UGC has also directed the six central universities to open yoga departments. The UGC mentioned that experts have to be invited from various institutes like Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Yogpeeth. The salaries will be paid according to the UGC norms.
