UGC Asks Universities to Plan Trips to Freedom Fighter Memorials for Independence Day
- UGC further informed the educational institutes to invite eminent personalities for talks on freedom struggle from August 9 to August 30, 2017.
- UGC and MHRD advised the educational institutes to take up various activities to sensitize the students.
In the latest circular issued by the University Grants Commission, it directed all the universities and educational institutes across the country to plan a trip to memorials of freedom fighters as well as residents of martyrs as a part of 70th Independence Day celebrations. Similarly, UGC directed the students to take a pledge at 9:30 AM on August 9, 2017, along with teaching and non-teaching staff to make the country a caste-free, terrorism-free, poverty-free, corruption-free and uncleanliness-free.

UGC further mentioned that 2017 is a landmark year, as Quit India Movement which was launched on August 8, 1942, by Mahatma Gandhi entered into the 75th year. On the other hand, India is going to celebrate 70th Independence Day to commemorate the great sacrifices of freedom fighters. Therefore, UGC and Ministry of Human Resource and Development advised the educational institutes to take up various activities to sensitize the students.
UGC further advised the faculty of various institutes to conduct guided tour for students to the residences of martyr from para-military, military, police and freedom fighters. By organising these trips, students will be acquainted about the contribution of freedom fighters.

UGC further informed the educational institutes to invite eminent personalities for talks on freedom struggle from August 9 to August 30, 2017. All the educational institutes shall organise the talks with the name of ‘New India Mantan’. Educational institutes can also organise quiz competitions on India’s freedom struggle.
