UGC cautions students on unrecognized online foreign degrees
University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a warning against the foreign online degrees being offered by several ed-tech companies. UGC stated that any of such programs is unrecognized and students should stay cautious from such offers.
UGC’s Warning on Unrecognized Online Degrees: In a recent notice released by the University Grants Commission (UGC), all students have been asked to stay cautious about the educational companies that are offering online degree courses. UGC has warned the ed-tech companies to refrain from such practices. It also asked the students that enrolling on such courses would only make them fall into more trouble as no recognition is given to these online degrees. Getting a degree from an unrecognized collaboration between the tech company and foreign universities contains no future employment opportunities for them.

UGC Cautions Students on Unrecognized Online Degrees
In its notice, UGC stated that a number of such online degrees have come to light that the commission does not approve. UGC highlighted some points for the students to be aware of any edtech providing unapproved degree with the collaboration of a foreign university:
Misleading and Lucrative Advertisements: The ed-tech companies make false promises to the students by adding the names of some renowned universities without disclosing the nature of their collaboration
Unrecognised institutions: The degrees these companies are providing are not approved by the Universities Grants Commission and hence not eligible to issue a valid degree certificate
Illegal Collaborations with Foreign Universities: UGC has not recognized collaboration with foreign universities as a valid organisation and also does not accept the tie-ups of online companies with foreign HEIs
Verify Recognition on UGC’s Website: All students are requested to check the name of the institute approved by IGC on its official website ugc.gov.in before enrolling in any foreign degree program
Do not Fall Prey to Lucrative Foreign Institutes' Names: The students are advised to research thoroughly and not get attracted by the name of the foreign university that is being advertised
