UGC Delays Permission for Distance Education Centre of Savitribai Phule Pune University
The officials of the University said that they had sent the proposal to UGC six months ago
The University Grants Commission is continuously delaying the permission for Distance Education Centre (DEC) of Savitribai Phule Pune University. The plan of the University failed to materialise. So, the Distance Learning Centre in this university has become a distant dream.

The University planned to start the distance education centre this year. A committee was appointed to look into this matter. Presently, the External Department of the University is functioning as the centre of distance learning. The officials of the University said that they had sent the proposal to UGC six months ago. The authorities of the University are taking regular follow ups. So far, there hasn't been any response from UGC.

Mr Sanjay, Head of the Committee who sent the proposal said that it takes two-three months for the approving of the proposal. The UGC sends a team of its officials to inspect the University and submit the report. The University is likely to receive approval for the next academic year.
The distance education centre in this region will help the rural students to pursue higher education. The varsity can open distance learning centres in various cities once they get approval. A total number of 10,000 students are pursuing various courses in the External Department of the Varsity. The students are eagerly waiting for the DEC.
