UGC Directs Central Universities to Review their Curriculum

UGC has directed the central universities to review and update their curriculum at least once in every three years. The step has been taken to follow the most advanced and updated curriculum.

This will not only enhance the quality of education but will also make students of these universities more employable.

According to the letter sent out by UGC, the decision was taken at the recent meeting of the Group of Secretaries on Education and Social Development with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The need to revise the curriculum of a university’s academic departments was highlighted.

It was proposed in the meeting that updating the curriculum in every three years is important. This will help the universities to cover the latest research and academic developments in the curriculum.

Another major reason behind the review and revision of academic curriculum is to focus on skill enhancement as there is a rising demand for skilled professionals in the market. Developing skills of the candidates will help them in getting good offers and launch themselves in their respective industries.

The UGC also asked the universities to prioritize this matter and act immediately in this regard. It also stated that reviewing what the students are studying is an essential therefore reviewing the curriculum should be the top responsibility of the universities.

Updating the curriculum and revision of syllabus is the way forward to enhance education quality, added UGC.
