UGC Directs Kolhan University to Introduce a Diploma Course in Environment Education
The Kolhan University of Jharkhand is all set to begin its diploma course in Environmental Education from the academic session of 2019-2020. The UGC directed the university to begin this course in order to spread awareness among students about the environment and its problems.
The Kolhan University, located at Chaibasa in the district of West Singhbhum in Jharkhand, has been directed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to start a diploma course that will be compulsory for all students from the upcoming academic year. Under this, the students will have the opportunity to study about the environment with the help of practical classes that will be conducted in a natural atmosphere.
The undergraduate students will have to study seven topics that will be related to the environment. They will also be required to go for field visits to riversides, forests, and other natural sites that are surrounded by flora and fauna. Outdoor classes will be conducted in some of the most polluted places and the students will be collecting information about the local plants that are available, the forest species, and also the ecosystem of the locality.

The Kolhan University will start with its diploma course in Environmental Science and it will be of a duration of six months. Students of all disciplines, departments, and streams will go through the subject and study it as the University Grants Commission wants to spread awareness among the students about the environment and its issues. The UGC has sent a letter to the Kolhan University, directing it to spread awareness about environment protection.

The Vice-Chancellor of Kolhan University, Shukla Mahanty, talked about this and said that the academic council of the university will take up this initiative further so that the students could attend the classes and study the course smoothly. Mahanty said that the university intends to commence this environment education course from the upcoming academic session of 2019-2020 so that the students can learn and be equipped with measures of environmental protection.
