UGC Directs Universities to Set Up Intellectual Property Centres & Innovation Labs
To promote innovation in the country, UGC has directed all the universities to set up Intellectual Property Centres and Innovation Labs. It has also asked the higher educational institutes to organise boot camps and entrepreneurship-focused events.
University Grants Commission has asked all the higher education institutes and universities to establish Intellectual Property Centres and Innovation Labs. UGC plans to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship through this initiative. The start-ups and innovators from all the country are always coming up with new ideas and creativity to address social issues.
According to the official letter of UGC, all the higher education institutes have been directed to organise boot camps, conduct investor session and entrepreneurship-focused events.

Such events provide students with an opportunity to interact with successful entrepreneurs. Also, the prime motive of the higher education institutes should be to promote the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship and efforts must be made to facilitate their growth.
Many premier education institutes have come up with incubation centres for entrepreneurship and innovation so that students can gain adequate experience before stepping into the professional world.

Meanwhile, MHRD has made it clear that varsities cannot force the students to submit their original documents such as mark sheets, transfer certificates, among others at the time of submission of the admission form. However, if an institution demands the original certificates for verification of the same, they shall be returned to the students immediately once verified.
