The Nodal Higher Education body University Grants Commission has asked to implement online admission system for all the programs offered by educational institutions throughout the country from next year by June-July.
"This will not only ensure greater efficiency but also promote transparency in the functioning of institutions. It will also facilitate students and parents to make informed choices." said Ved Prakash , Chairman UGC.
UGC is planning to new way to keep tabs on universities. Universities will report about the software and the procedure adapted by them for online admission.
"If the admission is not done through online or if it is done partially, you may indicate the steps proposed by your university for converting it to the complete online mode from the academic session 2016-17," said Ved Prakash.
Universities have till January 2016 to think about the road they are going to choose as they have to report the progress to UGC till January.
Bharat Lal Meena, additional chief secretary for Higher Education in Karnataka said many universities and colleges in Karnataka have already implemented online admission system, where students can download application forms and even pay the admission fees. "We will implement online admission system at all the institutions in Karnataka by the end of next year," he said.
