UGC Guidelines to Pursue Two Full-Time Degree Courses Simultaneously

The University Grants Commission has announced that students will now be allowed to pursue two full-time degree programmes simultaneously. In simple words, students can enrol in two regular degree programmes subject to no clash with the class timings and schedule. Earlier, students did not have an option to pursue two courses in regular mode simultaneously. Instead, students were allowed to pursue one full-time degree course and online/ diploma/ short-term courses as the secondary option. 

UGC Guidelines to Pursue Two Regular Degree Courses

As UGC will be releasing the detailed guidelines for pursuing two regular degree courses on April 13, here are some of the basic guidelines highlighted by UGC Chief -

  • As per the new guidelines, a student can pursue a Diploma and UG programme simultaneously
  • Students who wish to pursue two Master’s programmes in regular mode simultaneously will not have any restriction 
  • Students will be allowed to take up two Under Graduate (UG) courses simultaneously in Sciences, Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities
  • Students can also enrol in two regular degree programmes, a distance learning programme
  • Students will have the option to choose two online degree programmes simultaneously
  • A student can also choose one regular degree programme and one online degree programme simultaneously
  • Universities will have the flexibility to choose the new scheme and it is not mandatory
  • Students will also have the choice to pick up a degree course from a university and the other from a different university
  • Students who are enrolling in dual degree programmes must note that there will be a minimum attendance rule to appear for exams. Therefore, students must note that the class timings for the two courses should not clash

The detailed guidelines will be released by UGC on April 13 in this regard, and the new scheme will come into effect from the academic session 2022-23.
