UGC Introduces Performance Centered Appraisal System for University Teachers
After much discussion and evaluating the proposals given by several educational groups including Teachers associations, the UGC announced that the UGC 4th Amendment Regulations.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) had announced the 3rd Amendment Regulations 2016 on May 10, 2016. After much discussion and evaluating the proposals given by several educational groups including Teachers associations, the UGC announced that the UGC 4th Amendment Regulations, 2016 will be effective from July 11, 2016. The 4th amendment will replace the 3rd amendment that was passed earlier and will be implemented with full force.

The 3rd amendment outlined the eligibility criteria and least qualifications required for the Selection of Teachers and the rest of the academic staff in higher educational institutions. It also defines the parameters by which the maintenance of standards shall be done in Higher Education.
The 4th amendment regulations will not have any change on the workload of teachers and the working hours remains unchanged. Also, candidates who have a Ph.D. degree that was awarded to them before 11th July 2009 and fall in line with the prescribed conditions, will be excused from NET for the profile of Assistant Professors in various Universities and Colleges across India.
