UGC-NET 2017: Students Oppose CBSE's Decision to Suspend June-July Session of Examination

UGC-NET 2017 aspirants are not happy with the decision of Central Board of Secondary Education to skip the first half of UGC-NET examination this year. Usually, UGC-NET takes place twice a year. However, UGC and CBSE failed to conduct June session of NET examination this year. Later, CBSE clarified that UGC-NET will take place only once in a year.

Unhappy with the decision, Students Islamic Organisation or SIO has filed a petition in Supreme Court asking CBSE to roll back the decision. SIO also requested the government to submit one more session of UGC-NET examination in 2017, as many candidates will lose eligibility due to the age limit.

The official notification for UGC-NET 2017 examination will be released on August 4, 2017, and the online application process will begin on August 11, 2017. The issue of official UGC-NET 2017 notification is already delayed by a week.

On June 11, 2017, CBSE announced that UGC-NET 2017 examination will take place on November 5, 2017. The announcement of CBSE was a shock to the aspirants who were curiously waiting for the summer session of the test.

SIO was of the opinion that conducting UGC-NET once a year will result in an acute shortage of qualified teachers in degree colleges. Today, shortage of faculty in higher learning institutes is the major concern for the government.

Earlier, CBSE informed HRD Ministry about its inability to conduct the UGC-NET examination as it is draining the resources of the board. On the other hand, CBSE was not able to concentrate on its core competencies because it is already conducting examinations for various bodies.
