UGC-NET Exam is held twice a year. However, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the University Grants Commission has decided to combine the examination cycles and hold them only once a year. UGC NET is held for the recruitment of the posts of Assistant Professorships, Junior Research Fellowships, or both in various Indian Colleges and Universities. For the position of JRF, the UGC NET Certificate is now valid for three years while the certificate for the positions of assistant professor/lecturer is valid for a lifetime.
UGC had previously stated that a PhD will no longer be required to teach in central institutions. The decision was made so that industry professionals without PhDs can apply for assistant professor positions at colleges and universities around the country.
Last year, UGC NET was held between November 20, 2021 and December 5, 2021. Over 12.6 lakh people enrolled for the exam, which was held in 469 authorised exam centres across 213 cities. The examination was conducted for a total of 81 papers. Only 6,71,288 candidates appeared for the exam out of 12,66,509 applicants and only 52,857 of the total candidates passed the exam.
