UGC Aims to Reduce Gap between Public and Private Varsities
UGC Vice Chairperson highlighted the need for more private educational institutes in the field of agricultural sciences. The discussion was conducted as a part of the plenary session of 106th Indian Science Congress.
UGC Vice-Chairman, Professor Bhushan Patwardhan pointed out that lack of private institutes in the field of agriculture, affordable education and overlapping of the jurisdiction of various regulatory bodies are the major issues that have been obstructing the country’s growth. Professor Bhushan highlighted these issues during the ‘Plenary of Academic Regulator Bodies’ session at 106th Indian Science Congress (ISC).
According to Professor Bhushan, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) are not enough for India’s growth. Emphasis should be given on setting up private institutes in the field of Agriculture. The country needs private and private institutes in STEAM (Science. Technology, Engineering, Agriculture and Mathematics). It is time to break the barrier between agriculture, mainstream sciences and agriculture, he explained.
