UGC Asks Universities and Colleges to Provide Reports on Sexual Harassment Cases
University Grants Commission has asked all the higher educational institutions to provide them with all the reports regarding the sexual harassment cases that have been lodged with the college and the situation regarding the Internal Complaints Commission that will deal with such situations in the future.
The University Grants Commission has asked all the universities and colleges to submit a report to them, so as to understand the current situation in the issue of gender-based discrimination, violence, and other issues as well. The UGC has specifically asked for the number of sexual harassment complaints that have been lodged with the higher educational institutions.
Along with the order of sending in a report of the gender-based violence in the higher educational institutions, UGC has also asked for a report on their position on the formation of the Internal Complaints Commission (ICC), which is a requirement for the take care of situations such as the sexual harassment cases. The secretary of UGC Rajnish Jain had made a statement stating that the higher educational institutions were asked to set up an Internal Complaints Commission that will take up cases of sexual harassment as well as conduct programmes and events that promote gender sensitizations.

The step has been taken to ensure that women studying at the colleges have a safe environment and make the necessary changes to help all the women that have been victims of sexual harassment in all the higher educational institutions in a much better and effective manner.

Rajnish Jain also added that the colleges will have to submit all the reports by 31st July 2019. They will have to include all the cases that have been lodged in regards to the sexual harassment cases at the higher educational institutions. The UGC is expecting to receive the status of all these reports. They plan to compile all the data that they will receive and make a report that will be submitted to the Government.
