UGC Informs Universities to Observe ‘Armed Forces Flag Day’ to Commemorate Supreme Sacrifices
Indian Universities and colleges will observe December 07 as National Flag Day. The universities are requested to arrange functions/ talks for the students in their colleges.
The University Grants Commission informed all the universities to observe the ‘Armed Forces Flag Day’ on December 7 to commemorate the supreme sacrifices of armed forces personnel during conflicts. An official letter has been sent to the heads of all the higher learning institutes and universities regarding the same.
The UGC letter stated that the institutes and universities must observe the day for the ‘unique and supreme sacrifices made by Indian valiant Armed Forces personnel for protecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country and securing the lives of Indian citizens against the threats of terrorism and insurgency’.

On December 7, 2018, the universities have to arrange talks or functions for the students in their institutes or colleges to generate awareness. According to sources, the Defence Ministry has to observe the ‘Armed Forces Flag Day’ on a grand note. Therefore, the ministry urged the UGC to inform all the educational institutes regarding the same.
So far, there has never been a large-scale digital or social media campaign for ‘Armed Forces Flag Day’ to complement the efforts to motivate or mobilise public contribution to the armed forces flag day fund.

From December 1 to December 7, 2018, there will be a massive digital campaign spread across Facebook, Twitter etc., encouraging people to wear ‘Armed Forces Flag’ with pride to evoke the feeling of patriotism and show solidarity and support for the military. The campaign focuses on raising funds that will be used to support disabled ex-servicemen, children of martyrs, war widows and other such beneficiaries. The public can contribute to the funds using a UPI code.
