UGC Warns Universities on M.Phil Admissions: Reiterates discontinuation of the course
In a recent, the University Grants Commisison (UGC) has reiterated the discontinuation of M.Phil program from all universities and raised concerns over the institutes which are still offering admissions to this course.
UGC Warning Against Further M.Phil Admissions: In a recent and alarming notice, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has raised concerns and issued a warning against the universities that are still taking admissions for M.Phil (Masters in Philosophy) courses. The UGC has brought to notice that the M.Phil is not a recognised degree and has no further accreditation by any department. UGC has also warned the universities to refrain from any activities like this or else strict action will be taken. The commission has also given reference to the Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of Ph.D Degree) regulations 2022 in its support.

The commission has requested the universities and other higher educational institutions to stop admissions in any of the M.Phil courses for the current or the upcoming session. During its brief warning, the Commission stated that Regulation 14 of the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of Ph.D Degree) Regulations 2022 clearly mentions that the Higher Educational Institutes shall not offer M.Phil programme in any subject.
"It has come to the notice of the UGC that a few Universities are inviting fresh applications for M.Phil. (Master of Philosophy) program," reads the official notice. "In this regard, it is to bring to the notice that the M.Phil. degree is not a recognized degree. The Regulation No. 14 of the UGC clearly states that Higher Educational Institutions shall not offer M.Phil. program."

This warning letter has been released in recognition that the UGC has noticed some universities inviting fresh applications for M.Phil program. The commission has therefore released an official statement that it is still firm on its decision to not recognise the status of the program. All students have been advised to not fall prey to any of such admission advertisements of the M.Phil courses.
