UGC’s Shortlists 32 Colleges from Karnataka for Special Grants

The University Grants Commission has shortlisted about 32 colleges for grants under the Colleges with Potential for Excellence’ (CPE) scheme in Karnataka. Karnataka, has the second highest number of shortlisted colleges followed Maharashtra.
Colleges like Government Arts College – Hassan; University College – Mangaluru;Government College – Mandya; Maharani’s Science College for Women, and Commerce and Management College for Women; both from Bengaluru; and, Maharani’s Arts are among the colleges that have been shortlisted.
The criteria to be fulfilled by colleges that are applying for the tag of CPE are as follows:
- Must be at least 10 years old; and,
- Must be accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, with a minimum ‘B’ grade.
After being chosen by the UGC’s - Standing Committee on CPE, Principals of these colleges will have to make presentations before the Expert Committee regarding their budget requirement, along with their proposed action plan.
There will also be financial grants of up to INR 1.5 crore for each college during the 12th Plan. Fiscal assistance will be offered for updating and upgrading of the departments and cannot be utilized for building construction.
