UK in Favour of Hosting International Students
With their roundtable discussion on "Internationalization of Higher Education: east and northeast India”, the British Council has made efforts to make students feel welcome to the UK to pursue higher studies.
With their roundtable discussion on "Internationalization of Higher Education: east and northeast India”, the British Council has made efforts to make students feel welcome to the UK to pursue higher studies. The discussion was held in collaboration with Jadavpur University on Thursday, November 10, 2016.
Six delegates from UK Universities and seven East Indian Universities and Institutes were present at the roundtable session. The British Academics visiting Kolkata said that no cap has been implemented on the number of overseas students that can be accepted by higher education institutions in the UK.

Sarah Dixon, Pro-VC (International), University of Leicester, said that they are interested in welcoming more overseas students and inviting them to study new programs that have good internship opportunities while the student is pursuing the degree. Like science and engineering students, students enrolled in business programmes will also be provided with internship opportunities, Dixon added.
Vice-Chancellor of Jadavpur University, Suranjan Das, Debanjan Chakrabarti, Director of British Council (East India) and British Deputy High Commissioner (Kolkata), Bruce Bucknell discussed the need for motivating students to go for overseas higher education and develop links between Britain and northeast India.
British Council talked about helping map partnerships, increasing the research collaborations and promoting exchange programmes between the two countries.

The delegates also plan to visit the TATA Translational Cancer Research Centre, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Jadavpur (IACS), IIEST (Shibpur), Amity University and Presidency University.
