UK Delegates Impressed by Indian Education Policy

A delegation of University Vice-Chancellors and Chief Executives from the United Kingdom visited India. Steve Smith, Chair, Universities UK International (UUKi) expressed support for New Education Policy (NEP) and Indian students.

The UK delegates visited India with an agenda to discuss student mobility and employability as part of the UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI), which is an education-oriented bilateral programme. The UK higher education academic fraternity is impressed by India's New Education Policy (NEP) and are looking forward to positive changes through the same.

India- UK Education Collaboration

Smith visited in Delhi recently as a part of Delegation of Vice-Chancellors of over 20 universities from the UK to explore educational opportunities of mutual interest in the higher education sector with Indian government and institutes.

The British Council has taken up the responsibility of accommodating the delegation. During the meeting, discussion on various topics such as research collaborations and internationalisation of different higher education institutions took place The delegates discussed the different probabilities for discussions that will go on for entire weeks in Hyderabad and New Delhi.

The Director of Universities UK International (UUKi), Vivienne Stern stated that the current need and priority of UK Universities is to develop and maintain the bilateral relationship with India. She added that to do so, they will be focusing on the education and research partnership between the two countries.

The UUKi Director also stated that that they had recently called upon for applications for the UKIERI Study in India programme. Through the programme, they aim to bring in a maximum of 200 students from the UK to pursue their higher education in India by March 2021. She also stated that through their visit to India, they expect to come up with more opportunities wherein exchange of staff and education between the countries is facilitated along with delving deep into collaborative research.

As per sources, with the delegates visit to India and the respective governmental departments, the discussion was based on the National Education Policy that has been recently drafted. They added that the discussions focused on the Government’s objective on reforming the education system to sustain and help the graduates being produced from it.

The parties discussed the different policies both for current and future situations while analysing and finding mutual areas of interest. Furthermore, the Indian Government and the UK delegation will be deliberating high-level policies that will be aimed at improving the employability of the graduates while equipping them with the resources for a dynamic world.

With the new education policy drafted in India and many education-focused initiatives being undertaken by the Government of India, further partnership with International Universities will ensure a more stable and education and employability for the students. Depending on the policies and decisions taken at the delegation, the opportunities that will arise for aspiring candidates who wish to travel overseas for their future will only increase.
