UNICEF’s Data Visualization App to Provide Complex Analytics of Educational Scenario in India
- UNICEF, NCERT and NIEPA have jointly launched ‘Data Visualization App’.
- The app will provide a user-friendly representation of complex analytics of educational perspective/ scenario in India.
On May 24, 2018, UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund) launched a ‘Data Visualization App’ that provides a user-friendly representation of complex analytics of educational perspective/ scenario in India. NCERT (National Council for Education Research and Training) and NIEPA (National Institute of Education Planning and Administration) have collaborated with UNICEF to design this app. While designing the app, technical inputs of UNICEF have been taken into consideration.
The ‘Data Visualization App’ of UNICEF uses data from United District Information System for Education (UDISE), demographic data and National Assessment Survey (NAS) inputs. The app will act as a visual tool for policymakers, researchers, academia and senior government officials to monitor programmes and address gaps in the field of education.

UNICEF representative in India, Mr. Yasim Ali Haque explained that after the enactment of Right to Education Act, there is a significant progress in the areas of training of untrained teachers, recruitment of teachers, proving sanitation facilities and necessary infrastructure in schools, enrollment of children, improved access and systematic readiness. Apart from that, there is an improvement in the performance of children in the early classes. However, there are some problems that need to be addressed to translate these results into higher education, he expressed.

Secretary to HRD Ministry, Mr. Anil Swarup stressed on digitalization of education, which is essential to impart requisite skills to students. The education scenario will witness new dimensions through digital initiatives. The success of digitalization of education lies with its effective implementation.
